Target site selection by Tn7: attTn7 transcription and target activity.

The bacterial transposon Tn7 inserts at high frequency into a specific site called attTn7, which is present in the chromosomes of many bacteria. We show here that transcription of a nearby gene, glmS, decreases the frequency of Tn7 insertion into attTn7, thus providing a link between Tn7 transposition and host cell metabolism.

Sialyl-Tn in Cancer: (How) Did We Miss the Target?

Sialyl-Tn antigen (STn) is a short O-glycan containing a sialic acid residue a2,6-linked to GalNAca-O-Ser/Thr. The biosynthesis of STn is mediated by a specific sialyltransferase termed ST6GalNAc I, which competes with O-glycans elongating glycosyltransferases and prevents cancer cells from exhibiting longer O-glycans. While weakly expressed by fetal and normal adult tissues, STn is expressed b...

Autoradiographic studies of tn/tn mouse embryos.

High-resolution autoradiographic studies were used to determine whether t12/t12 and tw32/tw32 mouse embryos synthesize the excessive lipid which distinguishes these embryos prior to their death. The studies show that the tn homozygotes synthesize neutral lipid which is stored in intracellular lipid droplets. Cholesterol and phospholipid precursors are not incorporated into these droplets.
